The SpongeBob Musical Coming To Chaffey College
"The SpongeBob Musical," a vibrant and exhilarating stage production, brings the underwater world of Bikini Bottom to life with a flourish of song and dance. This theatrical adaptation of Stephen Hillenburg's beloved animated series, "SpongeBob SquarePants," is crafted with a script by Kyle Jarrow and an eclectic mix of original songs contributed by an array of esteemed artists including Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants, and T.I., along with pieces by David Bowie, Tom Kenny, and Andy Paley.
The narrative centers around the impending doom of an erupting volcano, threatening the existence of the quirky sea-dwelling characters. In these dire circumstances, SpongeBob and his eclectic group of friends band together, confronting challenges and discovering unexpected heroism amidst despair. The musical, directed by Sheila Malone with music direction by Pat Aranda, showcases the enduring power of optimism in the face of adversity.
With additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton and music by Tom Kitt, the production is a testament to Tina Landau's visionary conception. "The SpongeBob Musical" emerges as a captivating and heartwarming experience, appealing to a diverse audience with its universal themes and enchanting musical score. It represents a beacon of hope and joy, embodying a future that is as bright and promising as its colorful undersea setting.
