Rancho Cucamonga Man Sentenced For Making A False Gunman Report At Local Mall
Angel Morin, 44, of Rancho Cucamonga, has been sentenced to approximately seven months in county jail following a disturbing incident at Ontario Mills mall. On Memorial Day, Morin incited panic by falsely shouting "He has a gun," in a crowded mall, despite the absence of any gunman. This baseless alarm caused injuries to some of the mall's patrons as they scrambled for safety.
Morin entered a no contest plea to a charge of reporting a false emergency that resulted in injury, the Ontario Police Department announced on Monday, Nov. 6. According to records from the San Bernardino County Superior Court, Morin's total sentence is one year and four months. However, having already served 281 days, he now faces the remaining 204 days of his sentence.
The incident, which saw Morin yelling about a nonexistent gun in the mall, led to widespread fear and chaos among the visitors. Police stated that Morin's reckless actions were directly responsible for the panic and subsequent injuries.
Morin was apprehended on June 19, thanks to an anonymous tip, marking a swift conclusion to an event that had briefly terrorized the local community.

Rancho Cucamonga loses to Murrieta in double overtime
In a dramatic CIF Southern Section Division 2 quarterfinal, Murrieta Valley High School clinched a sensational 53-52 double-overtime victory against top-seeded Rancho Cucamonga. The decision by Murrieta Valley coach George Wilson to opt for a two-point conversion in the second overtime, rather than extending the game, proved decisive. Dorian Hoze successfully completed the conversion, sealing the win.
Murrieta Valley's journey to this victory was marked by a season-opening loss to Rancho Cucamonga, making this triumph even more significant as they prepare to host Mission Viejo in the semifinals. The game itself was a rollercoaster, featuring multiple lead changes in the fourth quarter alone and a series of dramatic moments, including a key touchdown by Camden Connor on a 70-yard kickoff return.
Rancho Cucamonga's Trey Wilson showcased an impressive performance with five touchdowns and 326 rushing yards. Despite this, Murrieta Valley's strategic plays in overtime, including a double pass from Asa Chatman to Julian Treadwell, ultimately set the stage for their victory. Rancho Cucamonga coach Brian Hildebrand commended his team's effort, noting the game's potential to be remembered as one of the best in high school football history. Murrieta Valley's Bear Bachmeier also had a notable game, contributing both on the ground and in the air.
Kaiser Squeaks by Los Osos to Win CIF Division 9 Quarterfinal Playoff
In a powerful CIF-Southern Section Division 9 quarterfinal, Kaiser High School edged out Los Osos in a nail-biting 50-49 victory, influenced by a sentimental tradition involving head coach Billy Cardosi's late father's cap. The game saw senior Kiâyel Shyne delivering a standout performance with 321 rushing yards and a decisive two-point conversion.
Cardosi, who began wearing his father's cap since a pivotal win in Week 7, attributes part of their success to this personal ritual. His father passed away in January, adding emotional depth to the team's journey.
The match was a display of offensive prowess from both teams. Kaiser's Tyce Clark made significant contributions, including a game-tying touchdown with just 33 seconds left. Los Osos, trailing by 21 points in the second half, staged a remarkable comeback led by quarterback Mason Overacker, who scored six touchdowns.
Despite the intense back-and-forth, Kaiser secured the win with a bold decision to go for a two-point conversion, successfully executed by Shyne. The victory sets up Kaiser for a semifinal clash against Santa Monica.
The game concluded with a tense final play, as Los Osos' last effort fell just yards short of the end zone, sealing Kaiser's dramatic win. Cardosi's unique tribute to his father, combined with the team's resilience and skill, has become a heartwarming narrative in their playoff journey.
Los Osos Girls Tennis Suffers Loss to Aliso Niquel in CIF Final Round
In a dramatic CIF Southern Section Division 1 girls tennis final, unseeded Aliso Niguel clinched a hard-fought victory over top-seeded Los Osos, decided by a total games tiebreaker. The match, which stretched from Friday afternoon into the evening at Pomona-Pitzerâs Pauley Tennis Courts, ended in a 9-9 tie, with Aliso Niguel emerging victorious with a 71-64 advantage in games.
The final's outcome hinged on the performance in singles by Aliso Niguel, contrasting with Los Ososâ strength in doubles. Jeff Pinter, coach of Aliso Niguel, acknowledged the challenge, given Los Osos' strong showing in the previous year's semifinals. However, Aliso Niguel's players exceeded expectations, especially in a crucial singles match between Ann Kato and Los Ososâ Shukan Parikh.
This match proved pivotal, with Kato triumphing in a tiebreak despite Parikh's early lead and subsequent struggle with leg cramps. This victory kept Aliso Niguel in contention, and they subsequently won all remaining singles matches decisively.
Aliso Niguel's performance was highlighted by singles sweeps from Kato and Olivia Allegre, claiming eight of nine singles matches. Parikh secured the only singles win for Los Osos, defeating Sonia Mangat in the first round. Los Osos coach Gilbert Delgadillo expressed pride in his team's effort despite the loss.
This match marked another year of heartbreak for Los Osos in the CIF-SS Finals, having lost the previous year to Tesoro. For Aliso Niguel, the win was a testament to their players rising to the occasion against formidable opposition.
